Open Call for a
Brazilian Furniture
The chair and the swing. A stool to wash feet in the shower. A false bottom which helps to hide secrets. Furniture for a church, a pair of nightstands, an armchair to sign a letter of resignation. A store counter. A sideboard to cook on. A table which can endure the mist, made to stay permanently under a tree.
The Open Call for a Brazilian Furniture is now open. Inventive creations, delicate or rough planning, where one may distinguish care and functionality for everyday, home, professional use or even power uses.

Selection and rewards
Some pieces of furniture may be preselected and invited to join the exhibition at the São Paulo Art Museum (MASP), from September 1, 2016 to January 29, 2017 – in these cases, the costs of shipment and return shipment with be covered by the museum.
The jury will meet after the call-for-submission deadline, and is paramount in allocating the rewards, which vary from R$ 200 to R$ 1,000, granted to only some participants.
For the category “I thought of a piece I wish to develop”, the jury may appoint, at their own discretion, the execution of some projects. In this case, the participant will receive a cash reward, and the cost to manufacture the piece of furniture will be covered by MASP, respecting the budget limitations. Two reproductions of the piece of furniture will be made, one of which may join the MASP collection.
This is a project run by artist Jonathas de Andrade, developed for the São Paulo Art Museum (MASP).
